Design and pre-construction works on The Wave Stage 1 are set to begin this month after the Queensland Government appointed contractors to deliver the next phase of the project.

Beerwah Coast Connect, CoastalTraX and Alstom have been engaged to undertake design and pre-construction (DPC) activities for The Wave Stage 1 Brownfield, Greenfield and Signalling packages respectively.

The DPC phase, including site investigations, will run until early 2027 and will inform detailed design ahead of major construction works expected to start next year, subject to approvals.

The DPC phase will include ground and road surface testing at permitted areas only, as well as topographical land surveys.

It will also involve public utility service identification and relocations, ecology assessments covering flora, fauna and marine plant studies, and waterway monitoring.

Baseline environmental monitoring will be carried out, including air quality, noise and vibration measurements.

Cultural heritage assessments will also be undertaken, along with accommodation works.

These will include the establishment of temporary site facilities such as mobile caravans, signage and site fencing at designated locations to support the activities.

These works will be undertaken across the The Wave Stage 1 Brownfield and Greenfield project corridor from Beerwah to Caloundra.

Trains are set to travel from Beerwah to Caloundra, and on to Birtinya.

They will also occur in local waterways including Blue Gum Creek, Mellum Creek and Lamerough Creek, as well as along sections of key roads including Steve Irwin Way, Simpson Street/ Old Landsborough Road, Beerwah Parade, Forestry Road, Aura Boulevard, Celebration Street, Bells Creek Arterial Road, Pelican Waters Boulevard and Caloundra Road.

While the works are described as relatively low impact, residents can expect workers, vehicles and machinery in the area, with periods of increased noise, dust, light and vibration.

There will also be reduced speed limits, temporary traffic changes and minor pedestrian detours around work zones.

Appropriate monitoring and controls will be in place to manage impacts and support community safety.
