An independently owned Queensland pizza business has opened its first Sunshine Coast store, with the owner citing the region’s growth and future potential as part of the decision to expand into the area.

Taking over the former Galactic Donuts Caloundra premises on Bowman Road, 3 Black Bears Pizza has established its fourth location in the southeast and created around 15 local jobs.

Owner Amanda Barnes said she saw strong potential in the local market and believed there were opportunities for further growth on the Sunshine Coast.

“Caloundra has a booming population base,” she said, hinting that future Coast-based stores could be on the horizon.

“Yes, but that’s a secret. We believe there is substantial opportunity with our unique business model.”

3 Black Bears Pizza offers a one-size, one-price model.

Founded in Brisbane in 2018 by Ingham-born Queenslander Steve Agli, 3 Black Bears also operates stores at Tingalpa, Fairfield and Upper Mount Gravatt.

The business is not franchised, with each store locally owned and operated.

Mr Agli established the company after identifying an opportunity to simplify the pizza ordering experience through a one-size, one-price model.

While the menu includes a range of traditional and specialty options, Ms Barnes expects favourites such as meatlovers and barbecue chicken and bacon to prove popular with Sunshine Coast customers.

“People just love the classics,” she said.

“Unlike our American competitors, all of our pizzas are a genuine large size – a full 12 inches, just like the old-school pizzas people remember.

“There is no confusing pricing, no hidden upgrades, just quality large pizzas for the same consistent price every time.”

The pizzas feature an artisan-style dough base, similar to sourdough, and are made using Queensland flour.

The new pizza store has taken over the site of the former Galactic Donuts.

Beyond serving pizzas, Ms Barnes said the business hoped to become involved in the local community through initiatives such as achievement awards for sporting clubs.
