New and improved facilities have been installed within the main park of a Sunshine Coast town.

A new half court and a refreshed toilet block are now open at Lilyponds Park in Mapleton.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said the $480,000 investment, which was shaped by  community input, bolstered connectivity and liveability in the area.

“Whether it’s a game of basketball or pickleball, a walk through the gardens or simply enjoying the outdoors, this space now offers more ways for people of all ages and abilities to connect, move and thrive,” she said.

“We worked in connection with the Mapleton community and delivered upgrades that make Lilyponds Park more accessible, inclusive and active for everyone.”

The revamped amenities block.

Councillor David Law said the Mapleton community had long asked for the improvements.

“We heard the call for better accessibility and more recreational options, and we’ve delivered,” he said.

“The new amenities are modern, inclusive and future-ready, and the half court is already proving popular with young people and families.

“This is a big win for Mapleton and a great example of how we’re working together to create vibrant, inclusive spaces for everyone.”

The court has line markings for multiple sports.

The upgraded amenity building includes a fully compliant unisex accessible (PWD) cubicle, an ambulant unisex cubicle, a standard unisex cubicle and a new accessible pathway from the car park.

The new half court, located near the skate park and playground, is designed for basketball, netball and pickleball, with line markings for all three sports.

Cr Law said the court was a direct result of community feedback.

“Eighty-seven per cent of residents supported the court, and we’re thrilled to see it now in action,” he said.

Mapleton and District Community Association president Peter Gamgee and Councillor David Law.

“It’s a fantastic addition to the park’s active youth zone and a great place for people to connect, play and stay active.”

The court also features sandstone seating and landscaping, creating a welcoming space for spectators and social gatherings.

The project was delivered with minimal disruption to park users, with the skate park and playground remaining open throughout construction.
