A rare slice of old Noosa is up for sale.

A largely untouched 1960s home owned by descendants of one of the region’s pioneering families is being marketed as a ‘clean slate’ opportunity, with expectations it could sell for more than $20 million.

The vacant property at 15 Natasha Avenue, Noosa Heads, is believed to be one of only a handful of original homes remaining on one of the area’s most sought-after ridgelines, overlooking Noosa Sound, the Noosa River, Main Beach and beyond.

Harcourts Prestige agent Luke Burton said the modest residence had changed little since it was built more than six decades ago.

“All of those 60s features are still there and all in real good nick,” he said.

“It’s like it hasn’t been touched. To be honest, it’s still got the original everything and it’s all in working order. The place has been kept so well. The roof’s been replaced, that’s about it.”

Among its distinctive features is a stone fireplace built with rock sourced from what is now Noosa National Park.

The property has had only two owners since construction and has been held by the same family for decades.

Its owners are descendants of the Massoud family, who arrived from Lebanon in the early 1900s and became prominent figures in Noosa’s development. The family established the first passenger transport and mail delivery service on the Noosa River and later opened Maisie’s Cafe on Gympie Terrace, a local institution that fed troops training in the district during World War II.

Michaeleem Monsour, a descendant of the family and a major property owner along Gympie Terrace, has previously documented the family’s long connection to the region and efforts to preserve its history.

Mr Burton said while original homes could still be found elsewhere, very few occupied such a commanding position and outlook.

“We get original homes no matter where you are. However, there’s not any original homes on ridgelines in Noosa like this,” he said.

“The view stretches out to the Pacific Ocean. You can see the headland at Tin Can Bay. It catches North Shore, Hastings Street, Main Beach, through to the river and then through to the hinterland. It is about a 200-degree view.”

Burton said only two streets in Noosa offered comparable elevated vistas and very few original homes remained on either.

“There’s only a handful left,” he said.

“The reason that’s appealing is because it allows someone to do whatever it is they want to do.

“Versus buying something that was built 15 years ago and having to work with that house, this is a blank canvas.”

The property has been on the market for about three months and has already attracted offers.

“There’s been two offers in the high teens that haven’t bought the property,” Burton said.

“One came awfully close. But the owners aren’t in a position where they need to sell, so it’s a matter of finding the right buyer.”

Burton said the property’s long-term value lay not in the existing home, but in what could eventually replace it.

“If someone’s going to spend, let’s use round figures, say $20 million purchasing it, they’re probably going to spend $10 million on a build,” he said.

“It’s probably going to be worth $40 million or $50 million. There’s only a select few of these. They’re going to buy it to have one of the best homes in the region.”

He expects interest to come from both local and international ultra-high-net-worth buyers.

“We are targeting a very select few. They’re not going to buy it to flip it. They’re going to buy it to have one of the best homes in the region. It will be a generational-style home.”
