A new chief executive officer has been announced for Sunshine Coast Airport, bringing extensive aviation, infrastructure and commercial experience to the role.
Tony Edmondstone joins the airport after seven years as CEO of Airport Development Group, which owns and operates Darwin, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek airports, as well as hotels, renewable energy assets and property in the Northern Territory.
He also held senior leadership roles with global mining and infrastructure company Orica, including leading its Europe, Africa and Asia businesses and global transformation. His career also included roles with Alcoa, Amcor and News Limited.
Mr Edmondstone said he was excited to join the airport at a pivotal time in its growth.
“Sunshine Coast Airport is a fabulous community asset, which plays a critical and ever-expanding role in supporting one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions,” he said.
The airport plays an important role in enabling tourism, business and economic growth across a region with a booming population.
“The airport has a strong vision, an experienced team and a number of transformational projects underway,” he said.
“I am looking forward to working with the board, executive team and employees to build on the strong foundations already in place and help deliver the next phase of growth for the airport and the Sunshine Coast.”
Airport Chair David Ryan said Mr Edmondstone’s appointment followed a comprehensive national recruitment process.

“Tony is a highly-accomplished executive with significant experience leading complex organisations, delivering major infrastructure projects and driving strategic growth.
“The airport is entering an exciting period with the $170 million terminal redevelopment progressing, the Gateway Precinct property development moving forward and strong opportunities for continued aviation growth.
“Tony’s appointment reflects the board’s focus on securing a leader with the experience to guide both the airport’s ongoing aviation growth and the delivery of its significant commercial and precinct development opportunities.

Mr Edmondstone will commence with Sunshine Coast Airport in 2027.
Mr Ryan also acknowledged the significant contribution of outgoing CEO Chris Mills who will depart the airport in November.
“Chris leaves the airport in a strong position, having led a period of substantial growth, strengthened the organisation’s culture and progressed a number of critical strategic projects,” he said.
“On behalf of the board, I thank Chris for his leadership and contribution and wish him every success for the future.”
