Terella Brewing has been fined $150,000 in a decision handed down in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
Magistrate Andrew Sinclair ordered the company, which formerly occupied a site at North Arm, to pay the fine within 30 days and also awarded Sunshine Coast Council professional costs of $4712.24. A conviction was not recorded.
The matter related to a charge of unlawful use of premises under the Planning Act 2016. A personal complaint against an individual did not proceed.
The case had previously been listed for trial on April 15, however the company ultimately entered a guilty plea before the court.
The penalty comes just months after Terella Brewing closed its doors, blaming what it described as “relentless pressure” on the business.
In February, the brewery told customers it had made the difficult decision to cease trading after years of challenges, thanking the community for its support throughout its operation.
The closure marked the end of one of the Sunshine Coast hinterland’s well-known craft breweries, which had become a popular destination for locals and visitors.
