A popular Irish pub known for its Sunday sessions and karaoke has confirmed it will not renew its lease after two decades beneath a beachfront resort.

O’Malley’s Irish Bar, which is run by the Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group, has operated on the ground floor of the Mantra hotel at Mooloolaba for the past 20 years.

But a spokesperson for Endeavour Group, which operates the ALH Group, said the venue would not be continuing beyond its current lease.

“After 20 years, we have made the difficult decision not to renew our lease of O’Malley’s in Mooloolaba,” they said.

“We’re still working through the details and timings, and will share more information with our team, guests and the local community as soon as we can.

“In the meantime, the venue remains open and trading as normal.”

The venue has been a favourite among locals and tourists for years.

“O’Malley’s Irish Bar, situated in the heart of Mooloolaba, is well known for live entertainment and some of the best nightlife on the Sunshine Coast,” its website says.

“We’ve been around for years, playing host to great nights out for locals and visitors alike. O’Malley’s is always serving up the best live cover bands that South-East Queensland has to offer, plus well-known Sunshine Coast resident DJs on support every Friday and Saturday night.

An online commercial property listing by Burgess Rawson from CBRE said the premises at 19-20/1 Venning Street sold at auction in May 2021.

It stated then that the “popular Irish pub with TAB and 3am licence” was securely leased to ALH until October 2025, with three further 10-year options.

“The O’Malley’s tavern licence is critical to Endeavour Group’s retail liquor network across the Sunshine Coast, providing three detached bottle shop licenses for nearby BWS stores in Maroochydore, Buderim and Wurtulla,” it said.

It described it as a “high foot-traffic location with Coles, BWS and Australia Post all within 150 metres”.
