A Sunshine Coast holiday park that welcomes more than 25,000 visitors a year is set to receive a $1.5 million upgrade to its facilities.

Sunshine Coast Council is planning to replace the 30-year-old residence and office at Coolum Beach Holiday Park.

The project was revealed in the council’s budget for 2025-26, which was handed down earlier this month.

A council spokesperson outlined the scope of the project and why it was necessary.

“The current building is more than 30 years old and no longer meets modern safety or accessibility standards,” they said.

“The redevelopment will deliver two new buildings – a dedicated office and a separate residence – ensuring compliance with current fire safety and accessibility regulations. This upgrade will modernise the park’s facilities and support its long-term future as a valued part of the Coolum community.

“The project will be fully funded by council and construction is expected to begin following a tender process in the coming months.

“The new facilities will provide a more spacious and functional environment for staff and guests, including a dedicated waiting area and improved accessibility.

“The holiday park will remain open throughout the works. A temporary office will be in place, and construction will occur away from the main guest areas to minimise disruption.”

The holiday park received upgraded amenities facilities worth $1.5 million in 2022, and 19 powered sites were improved at the southern end of the park in 2023.

There are more than 30 holiday parks in the Sunshine Coast and Noosa council areas.

Six of them – including Coolum – are owned by Sunshine Coast Council and operated by Sunshine Coast Holiday Parks.

“Last year, Coolum Beach Holiday Park welcomed more than 25,000 visitors. Based on Tourism Australia data, this injected an estimated $2.3 million into the local economy – highlighting the park’s important role in supporting tourism and local jobs,” the council spokesperson said.

“Council remains committed to enhancing the visitor experience while preserving the unique character of our coastal holiday parks.”

The Coolum Beach Holiday Park website says it one of the Sunshine Coast’s most popular camping and caravan destinations.

“Located next to the surf club, Coolum Beach Holiday Park is set on 10 acres of pristine beachfront land,” it says.

“The park is in easy walking distance to shops and restaurants, as well as the surf club and the Coolum Beach Bowls Club.”

The region’s caravan parks have experienced a boom in recent years, with sites at some parks often booked out a year in advance.

The council-operated Sunshine Coast Holiday Parks include the popular Coolum facilities.
