A person has been rescued from floodwaters and another was struck by lightning after wild weather hit the Sunshine Coast.
ANZAC Day commemorations went ahead this morning despite the threat of further rain, after heavy falls were recorded overnight.
The Bureau of Meteorology at 6.12am issued a warning saying thunderstorms with heavy rainfall were affecting parts of southeast Queensland.
It reported that 151mm was recorded at West Woombye in the three hours to 1.23am.
Nambour received 136mm in the three hours to 1.31am, and 140mm was recorded in Mapleton in the three hours hours to 1.47am.
The Maroochy Intake Weir recorded 91mm in one hour to 1am.
“A surface trough is combining with an upper trough to cause thunderstorms and heavy showers in the southeast this morning,” it said.
At 6.45am, Sunshine Coast Council’s Disaster Hub listed 14 local roads as being closed. Among them were Crosby Hill Road, Buderim; Bli Bli Road, Nambour; Jubilee Drive and Old Palmwoods Road, Palmwoods; and Currie Street, Hospital Road and Carter Road, Nambour.
The Queensland Ambulance Service reported that a male patient in a stable condition was taken to Nambour Hospital after a vehicle was caught in flash flooding on Hospital Road at 3.03am.
At Yandina, a female patient in a stable condition was taken to Nambour Hospital with neck pain following a lightning strike at a private property on Yandina Bli Bli Road at 12.43am.
