Families can now fly return direct to a holiday island approximately 50-70km offshore from the southern Sunshine Coast.
Helitec, a Coast-based helicopter company, has just commenced weekend flights from Sunshine Coast Airport to Moreton Island.
The 30-minute helicopter rides depart from Sunshine Coast Airport at 9am and return at 3pm, allowing visitors a five-hour stay.
Flights will initially land at Tangalooma Airstrip at Cowan Cowan Beach, where visitors can spend the day swimming in the island’s calm western waters or enjoying a picnic on the white sand.
Each helicopter can carry up to seven passengers.

Helitec CEO Phil Aldridge said the service would give Sunshine Coast families regular air transport to the island for the first time.
“The overwater flight in multi-engine Bell 429 helicopters will have spectacular views of the coastline and Moreton Island,” he said.
The company will eventually expand flights to other Moreton Bay islands.
