More runners than ever are set to compete in the Sunshine Coast Marathon Festival on Sunday, when major roads will be closed to traffic.
About 12,000 people are expected to compete in the event, which includes a marathon, half-marathon, 10km, 5km and 2km.
There will be changed traffic conditions at Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headland and Maroochydore. Among the roads to be affected will be Alexandra Parade, Mooloolaba Esplanade, Walan Street, Brisbane Road, Duporth Avenue and Bradman Avenue.

The occasion marks eight years until the Sunshine Coast will host the Olympic and Paralympic marathons.
EVA Air Sunshine Coast Marathon Festival director Jason Crowther said organisers were “thrilled” that record numbers were set for the event’s 12th edition.
“The incredible response highlights the growing popularity of our event and its importance as a major sporting event in the region,” he said.
More than $200,000 has been raised for the event’s major beneficiary, Ronald McDonald House Charities, partner charities Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and Wishlist Sunshine Coast, and others.
“The funds raised will provide essential support to many charities, enabling them to continue their invaluable work in the community,” Mr Crowther said.
“We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported this event and contributed to its success.”
The influx of visitors is expected to have a significant impact on the local economy, with accommodation providers at capacity.
Sunshine Coast councillor Joe Natoli said the region was recognised as a leading outdoor events destination.
“It is excellent to have international competitors coming from the UK, USA, France and Portugal to name a few, and thousands more from across Australia,” he said.
“They will join a strong local contingent of marathon and half-marathon enthusiasts participating in this year’s event.
“As one of the highlights of the Sunshine Coast’s major events calendar, it will continue to attract further international interest with the Sunshine Coast a planned venue for both the Olympic and Paralympic marathon for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“It is an inspiring opportunity to see more than 11,000 competitors racing along our coastline with spectators cheering them on along the course.”
The event will coincide with the women’s Olympic marathon in Paris, which will take place on Sunday afternoon.
