A popular strawberry festival is set to make a long-awaited return and raise crucial funds for a school community.

Chevallum StrawbFest will make its comeback at Chevallum State School on Friday, September 8, from 5-9pm.

It will be the 34th edition of the event, which will return after a four-year hiatus that was brought about by challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Organised by Chevallum State School, in collaboration with the Queensland Strawberry Growers Association and with thanks to the Palmwoods Community Branch Heritage Bank, the event promises to be a massive celebration of all things strawberry.

Festival co-ordinator and president of the volunteer Parents and Citizens Association Kellie Jarrett said it would be an important occasion.

“The past few years have been challenging for all of us but we are back stronger and more vibrant than ever,” she said.

“This is the main fundraising event for the Chevallum school community and our volunteers have worked tirelessly to bring together a spectacular showcase that will not only entertain but also pay tribute to our incredible community spirit.”

StrawbFest will offer strawberry offerings from the Queensland Strawberry Growers Association and a plethora of entertainment across three stages.

The festival is the main fundraiser for the Chevallum school community.

“We thank the Sunshine Coast strawberry growers for their continued support and look forward to presenting a delicious array of strawberry treats made with their produce,” Ms Jarrett said.

“Think everything strawberry: chocolate-dipped strawberries, strawberry sundaes, strawberry kebabs, strawberry daiquiris, fresh strawberries with cream and more.

“Entertainment includes Andrea Kirwin and Benjam on the main stage, amusement rides for kids big and small, more than a dozen food stalls, a licensed bar, a mega raffle with over $21,000 in prizes, and at 9pm we will have the biggest fireworks show in the event’s history.

“StrawbFest is a celebration of tradition, togetherness, and the vibrant spirit of our community. We’re excited to see families come down for what promises to be a ‘berry’ fun evening.

There will be entertainment, amusement rides, food stalls, licensed bar, raffle and fireworks.

Entry will free and all profits from the event will support the educational needs of kids within the Chevallum school community.
