A popular Sunshine Coast bakery has been forced to temporarily close after an early morning fire damaged its premises.
German Bakehouse Group, which operates its wholesale bakery from 1/54 Junction Drive at Coolum Beach, and supplies baked goods across the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane, announced the closure on Tuesday.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said they were called to a commercial building housing a bakery in the Coolum industrial area about 2.10am and extinguished the blaze.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said officers were called to assist about 2.15am.
“The cause is not being treated as suspicious and police investigations have concluded,” the spokesperson said.
In an online statement, the business said the incident would prevent it from operating for several weeks.
“It is with extreme sadness that we share some devastating news today. Overnight, our Coolum Bakehouse was impacted by an accidental fire,” they said.
“As a result, we will unfortunately be out of action for the next few weeks. Our team is already working hard behind the scenes, and we aim to be back up and running as soon as humanly possible.
“Right now, our biggest priority is supporting our incredible staff and keeping them employed.
“If anyone knows of a local business with a commercial kitchen or baking space we could temporarily rent, please reach out to us.
“We would be incredibly grateful for any leads or suggestions.”

The closure will also affect businesses supplied by the wholesale bakery as well as customers of its Coolum operation.
“To our regulars who will miss their morning coffees and pies, and our wholesale partners who rely on our daily bread: we are so incredibly sorry for the disruption,” they said.
“Thank you all for your ongoing support and understanding during this challenging time. We will keep you updated on our progress.”
Customers responded on social media with messages of support after the announcement.
“So sorry to hear this. Never a good time for a fire, but I imagine with the lead up to Christmas, this could not have come at a worse time. Your products are so loved, so I hope this just means bigger and better and that a new kitchen is found soon,” one said.
