A major discount retailer is preparing to open at a central Maroochydore shopping precinct that is undergoing a significant revamp.
The Reject Shop has confirmed it will open a new store at Big Top Shopping Centre in the coming weeks, as updates continue to take shape at the Ocean Street retail hub.
The retailer will be one of the latest additions to Big Top, where works have been underway for much of 2026 – namely with the construction of World Gym Maroochydore, which will also open next month.
A spokesperson for The Reject Shop said the new outlet was part of broader changes across the chain.
“The transformation of The Reject Shop will be gradual and take place over several years,” the spokesperson said.
“For fiscal 2027, we are aiming to update the layout and shopping experience in 60 to 80 existing stores across Australia, in addition to opening 15 to 25 net new stores, work that is progressing as planned.”

The spokesperson confirmed Big Top, which previously housed another low-cost shop named Discounts Galore, was next in line for the Sunshine Coast.
“Unfortunately, we do not provide region-specific renovation or opening schedules. However, I can confirm that a new Sunshine Coast location is set to open in the coming weeks at Big Top Shopping Centre in Maroochydore, and our Caloundra store, currently under renovation, is expected to reopen by the end of October.”
The spokesperson said the Maroochydore and renovated Caloundra stores would introduce an “updated” shopping experience.
“It will be designed to offer customers a clean, bright and well-organised store that is easy to navigate, with room to stock even more products,” they said.
“Customers will continue to find the everyday essentials, general merchandise and seasonal products they know and love, while we gradually introduce even more lower-priced products across categories to deliver greater value and convenience.”
The changes follow the acquisition of The Reject Shop by Canadian value retailer Dollarama last year for $233.6m.
The company has since begun progressively introducing elements of its retail model to The Reject Shop network, including revised layouts, fixtures and product ranges.

Dollarama reported earlier this year that renovated and newly opened Australian stores had adopted its in-store layout and fixtures but would continue operating under The Reject Shop name while the product assortment was transformed.

The Reject Shop spokesperson confirmed there would not be an immediate change to the familiar branding of it Coast stores.
“As we progressively introduce elements of Dollarama’s proven value retail model, all stores continue to operate under The Reject Shop banner for the time being.”
The company previously said its long-term expansion plans included growing its Australian network to 700 stores by 2034.
Its Sunshine Coast expansion included the opening of a large store at Nambour Central in May.
