Queensland police are stepping up enforcement across the state as families take to the roads for the spring school holidays.

A 39-year-old Sunshine Coast woman was intercepted on the Bruce Highway near Maryborough after police allegedly observed her driving at 151km/h in a 100km/h zone.

She received a $1989 fine, eight demerit points and a six-month licence suspension.

The case has been highlighted as Queensland Police Service launches Operation Yankee Spring Break, which will run from September 19 to October 9.

State Highway Patrol officers, local road policing units and general duty officers will conduct high-visibility and covert patrols, including speed enforcement, roadside breath testing and targeted traffic operations.

Police are expecting heavier traffic during the holidays and have urged motorists to allow extra travel time, take regular breaks and expect delays.

The operation comes after 219 people have lost their lives on Queensland roads so far this year.

It will also build on Operation Interpose, which began on April 25. Police issued more than 125,900 traffic infringement notices between then and September 15.

Police have also conducted more than 1.1 million roadside breath tests during Operation Interpose and detected 7475 alleged drink drivers.

Assistant Commissioner Emergency Response Coordination Command Rhys Wildman said enforcement could only go so far.

“However, we need Queenslanders to understand that enforcement alone cannot eliminate road trauma,” Assistant Commissioner Wildman said.

“Whether it’s speeding, driving while tired, or getting behind the wheel after drinking alcohol or taking drugs, one poor decision can have devastating consequences.

“Every driver has a choice, and every choice has a very real consequence.”

Recent State Highway Patrol footage released with the new operation also includes a 45-year-old Narangba man allegedly detected overtaking another vehicle at 130km/h in a 90km/h zone on Southern Cross Way near Nundah on August 8.

He received a $1295 fine and six demerit points for exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/h but not more than 40km/h.

Police intercepted a 58-year-old Jacob’s Well man on Beaudesert Beenleigh Road near Tamborine on September 6 after allegedly detecting his vehicle at 92km/h in an 80km/h zone.

He was issued a $518 speeding fine and three demerit points before allegedly returning a positive roadside breath test. A secondary analysis recorded a breath alcohol reading of 0.103 per cent.

The man was charged with mid-range drink driving and issued with a notice to appear in Beaudesert Magistrates Court on October 13.

A 48-year-old Loganholme man was intercepted on the same road on September 10 after police allegedly detected a truck travelling at 94km/h in an 80km/h zone.

Police allege a roadside drug test returned a positive result for a relevant drug, which was confirmed by a secondary analysis.

He was charged with drug driving and is due to appear in Beaudesert Magistrates Court on November 30.

Police also released details of a separate incident at Mudgeeraba on September 16, where a vehicle collided with two parked vehicles in Regency Place about 7.35am.

Police allege the 39-year-old Upper Coomera man driving the Hyundai I-Load returned a positive roadside breath test before a secondary analysis recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.300 per cent.

The man was charged with driving under the influence of liquor and is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on October 13.
