A man has been charged after an alleged armed robbery at a supermarket.

Police allege that the man entered a grocery store on Mill Street at Nambour, on Thursday at about 2.30pm, and selected a number of items before approaching an emergency exit.

Police allege two staff members approached the man, who produced a knife and threatened them before fleeing the business through the main front entrance.

Neither staff member was injured during the incident.

Police observed the man a short time later on Arundell Avenue, where it is alleged he ran from them.

Officers chased him on foot before he entered the creek where he was arrested.

A 19-year-old Nambour man has been charged with one count each of robbery threatening violence, possessing tainted property, attempted fraud and obstruct police.

He was due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday, September 11.

The investigation and charges are a part of Operation Yankee Forge, a six-month, district-led, statewide initiative targeting high-harm and high-volume offences, including unlawful use of motor vehicles, unlawful entry and robbery.
