A Sunshine Coast hotel has reopened under a new brand after a refurbishment that includes a new restaurant, upgraded accommodation and additional family-focused facilities.

The former Holiday Inn Express in Maroochydore is now operating as Holiday Inn & Suites Sunshine Coast, following changes to the 181-room property, which was opened by Pro-invest Hotels and IHG Hotels & Resorts in 2022.

The refurbishment includes the opening of Nineteen Restaurant & Bar, a new dining venue named after the Horton Park golf course that once occupied the site.

Guest rooms and suites have also been refurbished with a coastal-inspired design, while the hotel’s 41 one-bedroom suites have been configured for families and longer stays, featuring kitchenettes, separate living areas with sofa beds and, in some cases, private balconies.

The rooftop level continues to include a heated swimming pool, with a poolside bar scheduled to reopen in spring.

Other facilities include a fitness centre, self-service laundry, 24-hour reception, two meeting rooms catering for up to 60 people and rooftop event space for up to 70 guests.

The hotel’s new lobby bar is bright and light-filled.

The hotel is about 400 metres from Sunshine Plaza, within walking distance of Cotton Tree Beach and one block from the site of the future Maroochy Private Hospital.

Hotel manager Peter Manderson said the refurbishment was aimed at broadening the hotel’s appeal to families, holidaymakers and business travellers.

“We’re delighted to welcome families, couples, corporate travellers and groups to our thoughtfully refreshed hotel,” he said.

“This transition allows us to offer a more elevated and comprehensive experience, while maintaining the core values our guests appreciate most: comfort, convenience and consistent quality.”

All 181 guest rooms have a beach-inspired aesthetic.

Pro-invest Group chief executive officer for Australia and New Zealand Tim Sherlock said the changes reflected the way people were choosing to travel.

“At Sunshine Coast, we’ve built on a strong trading foundation to introduce new dining, upgraded suites and expanded family-friendly offerings that respond directly to how guests want to stay and travel today,” he said.

The rooftop space has a heated pool and poolside bar.
