More than $1.1 million has been allocated to upgrade a section of beachside pathway with expansive ocean views.
Sunshine Coast Council’s 2026-2027 budget included funds for a prominent stretch of the Caloundra Headland Coastal Pathway.
The money will go towards improving the 180m segment immediately to the east of the elevated boardwalk near Kings Beach, which was completed in late 2024.
A council spokesperson outlined why the works were needed.
“This upgrade is needed to provide a safer, more accessible route for people of all ages and abilities.”
“It will improve connections for walking, cycling and recreation, and strengthen access to key destinations such as Kings Beach.”

The project will include a 3m wide shared path, viewing and rest areas, landscaping, revegetation and turtle‑friendly lighting, adjacent to the Esplanade and Centaur Park, between Margaret Street and Ernest Street.
“The design takes advantage of coastal views while being sensitive to the surrounding environment,” the spokesperson said.
“This section will improve safety, comfort and connectivity for locals and visitors.
“It will support active, healthy lifestyles, boost tourism and create a more attractive public space. It also supports sustainable transport and contributes to a low‑carbon future.”

The project forms part of the broader Caloundra Headland Coastal Pathway, a 947m route divided into five sections from Kings Beach to Shelly Beach.
Section A is complete, with sections B to E to be delivered in stages as planning and funding allow.
Works on section B were expected to start following a construction tender process.
“The community will be notified of timing, staging and any impacts once confirmed,” the spokesperson said.
“Access will be managed to maintain safety and minimise disruption where possible.”
The project is also part of the broader 73km Sunshine Coast Coastal Pathway, which stretches from Bells Creek in the south to Coolum Beach in the north. Many sections of the pathway have been upgraded or will be upgraded. The pathway is split into nine segments, called connections, and runs beside beaches, parks and leisure areas.
