A $50m program designed to make South East Queensland entities more digitally adept is open for applications.

The Local Digital Priority Projects (LDPP) grant program is levelled at eligible local governments, industry groups, public and private entities and not-for-profit organisations.

The funding is intended to improve access to essential online services, bridge the digital divide for vulnerable Queenslanders and empower communities throughout SEQ with improved connectivity.

The program will support projects ranging from public Wi-Fi and digital infrastructure upgrades to initiatives that build digital capability and training opportunities, with a focus on improving access to essential online services and reducing the digital divide.

It’s jointly funded with a $40m contribution from the federal government and $10m from the Queensland Government.

Federal Minister for Communications and Minister for Sport Anika Wells said the investment would help ensure South East Queensland was prepared for future growth and major international events.

“With the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games fast approaching, investments like this will help ensure South East Queensland is ready to welcome the world – and positioned to succeed long after the games conclude,” Minister Wells said.

“This investment will deliver real benefits for communities and businesses across the region.

“Better digital connectivity means greater access to essential services, stronger local economies, and more opportunities for people to stay connected with family, friends and work.”

Queensland Minister for Customer Services and Open Data and Minister for Small and Family Business Steve Minnikin said the funding would help communities and businesses embrace digital technologies.

“For example, eligible applicants can apply for funding to boost digital capability, to transition from paper-based processes to digital, creating more efficient processes, with less red tape,” Minister Minnikin said.

“By investing in digital infrastructure and capability, we are laying the foundation for a more connected, inclusive, and prosperous SEQ – especially as we prepare to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“This initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration between all levels of government and industry to deliver real benefits for our communities.”

Applications close August 24.
