A man has been charged after a teenage cyclist was struck by a vehicle on a main Sunshine Coast road.

The Forensic Crash Unit charged a 42-year-old man afterinvestigations into the crash at Buderim on May 7.

Investigations indicate a 13-year-old Mooloolaba boy was riding his bicycle on Sugar Road just after 6pm, when he was struck by a vehicle at the roundabout at the intersection with Wises Road.

The driver allegedly continued along Sugar Road and left the scene without rendering assistance

The 42-year-old man has been charged with careless driving causing grievous bodily harm and failing to fulfil obligations following an appeal and investigations.

He is expected to appear at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on June 16.

The boy sustained serious leg injuries, has undergone multiple surgeries and remains in Queensland Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Forensic Crash Unit investigations are continuing.
