Police are investigating a string of break-ins targeting basement car parks at apartment complexes in the heart of the Sunshine Coast.

Residents have been urged to lock up their valuables, after recent incidents in Maroochydore.

It’s alleged that at least two men manually opened a garage door to an underground parking space on Sixth Avenue and searched through multiple vehicles on May 6 at about 9.04pm. Nothing was taken but some property was damaged.

Following  investigations, a 29-year-old Bli Bli man was arrested on May 14 and charged with two counts of enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence. He has been remanded in custody to face Maroochydore Magistrates Court on 26 June.

Police also received reports of a break-in at an apartment complex on Duporth Avenue on May 3 at about 10pm.

Early enquiries indicate three masked suspects managed to disengage the underground garage door’s automatic opening mechanism and stole an electric bike.

Police also received reports of a break-in at the basement area of a residential complex on Picnic Point Esplanade on May 5 at about 9pm.

Initial investigations indicate unknown suspects gained access by disabling the electronic garage door and rifled through multiple cars and storage areas, before stealing two bicycles.

Investigations into all incidents are ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact police.

The investigations come as Operation Yankee Forge continues.

The operation is a six-month, district-led, statewide initiative targeting high-harm and high-volume offences, including unlawful use of motor vehicles, unlawful entry and robbery.
