A motorbike rider’s stunt through a main intersection has been captured on film by police who were waiting at traffic lights.
The man was caught performing a wheelie at the intersection of Brisbane Road and Foote Street in Mooloolaba about 7.46am on April 11 by the dashcam of a marked police vehicle.
The rider was pulled over in a car park beside Alexandra Parade at Alexandra Headland.
The 21-year-old Mountain Creek man was issued a traffic infringement notice for not having proper control of his vehicle and fined $389.
It comes after the Mooloolaba intersection and surrounding streets were labelled a “raceway” by a concerned resident, who called on authorities to clamp down on motorists.
The Queensland Police Service said police were cracking down on dangerous driving and riding behaviour around Mooloolaba.
“Dangerous driving or riding on our roads endangers lives and puts innocent members of the public at risk,” it said.
“The Queensland Police Service employs a range of covert and overt strategies, including the use of unmarked motorbikes, to patrol known hotspots and take enforcement action.
“The message to anyone taking part in high-risk activities on local roads is police will continue to target and investigate dangerous acts and take action against those involved.
“Police and the community do not accept these reckless antics on our roads and anyone with any information to assist police in identifying those involved are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
