A Sunshine Coast student rock band has blasted its way to a coveted prize worth $100,000.

The Spice Boyz, from Siena Catholic College, claimed first place at Australia’s premier high school battle of the bands competition, the Harwyn Rocking the Nation 2025 Grand Final.

The event was held at Monash University’s Alexander Theatre in Melbourne, and was judged by music icons Joe Camilleri, Deborah Conway and Simon Starr, while broadcaster Brian Nankervis was compere.

The Spice Boyz received $25,000 worth of professional music equipment, while also securing an extraordinary prize for their school, a custom Harwyn Music Pod valued at $100,000.

The purpose‑built pod provides a sound‑proof rehearsal and performance space, allowing students to practise and perform without disrupting surrounding classes.

Siena Catholic College principal Sharon Collins travelled to Melbourne to support the band and praised the students’ achievement.

“We are incredibly proud of our Year 12 students Louis, Finn, Bradley and Lucas,” she said.

“They have not only inspired other students within our college community to pursue music, but have also provided the college with a facility we would not otherwise have had access to.

“The Harwyn Pod will significantly enhance our ability to offer high‑quality music education and performance opportunities for years to come.”

The pod has now been installed on campus and was officially presented to Ms Collins and The Spice Boyz on Wednesday, March 11.
