The opening date has been announced for the Sunshine Coast’s first Lego Certified Store, with the new outlet set to welcome its first customers on March 21.

The store, located at Sunshine Plaza, will mark the first time the global brand has opened on the Sunshine Coast when doors open at 9am that Saturday.

News of the opening date comes after earlier confirmation that the international toy brand would establish an outlet in the region.

The 216-square-metre store is designed as an interactive space where visitors can explore a wide range of Lego sets, take part in hands-on building experiences and view large-scale brick-built displays.

The outlet is being launched by the Lego Group in partnership with Alquemie Group, which operates Lego Certified Stores across Australia and New Zealand.

“This grand opening is more than the launch of a retail space, it’s the beginning of a new destination where families can come together to build, explore and create lasting memories,” Troy Taylor, vice-president and general manager of Lego Australia and New Zealand, said.

“We’re incredibly proud to officially open our doors and warmly invite the community to experience a store designed to spark creativity and inspire play.”

The new Lego store will be unlike any other outlet on the Coast.

Among the centrepieces of the new store will be a custom-built Lego mosaic inspired by a Sunshine Coast landscape. The display is made from 21,105 pieces and took more than 200 hours to build.

A large-scale brick-built surfer model will also feature inside the store. The 3D interactive display has been constructed using 44,506 Lego bricks and reflects the region’s coastal lifestyle.

Shoppers will be able to browse a wide range of Lego products, including exclusive and hard-to-find sets, while younger visitors can take part in hands-on play and building activities.

Managing director of licensed brands at Alquemie Group Matthew Robertson said excitement had been building ahead of the official opening.

“We’re thrilled to officially announce March 21 as the opening date and can’t wait to welcome the Sunshine Coast community through the doors,” he said.

“This store represents our joint commitment to delivering world-class retail experiences in growing Australian regions. The excitement around this opening has been incredible, and we look forward to celebrating with families, collectors and Lego fans of all generations.”

The ‘Pick and Build’ wall lets imaginations go wild.

The store will feature several signature Lego experiences including a ‘Pick and Build’ wall, allowing customers to choose individual bricks, and a ‘Build a Minifigure’ station where visitors can create their own custom characters.

There will also be interactive play zones, large-scale model displays and in-store workshops run by specially trained staff.

Opening day promotions will include a free customised Sunshine Plaza minifigure for the first 100 customers who make a purchase.

Shoppers who spend $199 or more will also receive a free Lego store gift with purchase while stocks last.
