A man has died in the surf at Alexandra Headland.

Surf Life Saving Queensland reported that the surfer lost his life early on Saturday morning.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said paramedics were called at 5.23am.

“We attended Alexandra Headland for a surfer who had been pulled from the water,” they said.

“They did work on the patient for some time but unfortunately it became a police matter.”

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said a report would be prepared for the coroner following the non-suspicious death.

“Police and emergency services were called to Alexandra Parade around 6am after a man was pulled from the water,” they said.

“The 73-year-old Buderim man is believed to have suffered a medical episode whilst in the water.

“He was treated on scene but declared deceased a short time later.”

Sunshine Coast chief lifeguard Trent Robinson said members of the public and off-duty lifeguards attempted to help the man.

“It was just really unfortunate,” he said.
