A heritage-listed hinterland property that was one of the area’s original homesteads has been put up for sale.

Sitting on almost 6000sqm, Montville Estate features Eastnor House, which was built in 1895 has been fully restored to preserve its character.

Located at 15 Western Avenue, the property sits just behind Montville’s Main Street and also has a fully self-contained retreat.

Melissa Chaddock of Remax Hinterland said the property combined historic significance with practical living.

“Montville Estate offers a once-in-a-generation opportunity to secure a landmark hinterland property,” she said.

“It is one of the few original homes left in Montville, which was formally settled in 1897, and was its first receiving office, running from 1897 to 1910.”

The homestead has three bedrooms and is currently used for short-term accommodation.

Eastnor House takes its name from the original owners’ place of employment at Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire, with Ms Chaddock saying the heritage aspect was a major draw for buyers.

“The estate combines history, location and functionality in a way that is hard to find in Montville today,” she said.

The home includes three bedrooms and multiple living and dining areas. It retains traditional features such as timber floors, high ceilings and verandahs, combined with modern facilities.

Outdoors the estate has a magnesium pool, entertaining deck and landscaped gardens.

The home retains its historic charm.

The property also includes the self-contained Postman’s Cottage – named for the estate’s postal history – which has a king bedroom, kitchen, lounge and fireplace.

Montville Estate is currently used for short-term accommodation.

Ms Chaddock said interest in the property had been strong, with inquiries from local and interstate buyers. One offer had been made but was not accepted.

The estate has landscaped gardens.

She said the property offered flexibility for future owners.

“It could continue as a short-term accommodation venue or be used as a family home, home office, studio or lifestyle retreat,” she said.

Ms Chaddock said it was rare to find a property of such size so close to the village.

“Nothing of this size is available for residential use,” she said. “It’s only a two-minute walk into Montville.”

The property is listed for offers over $1,975,000.
