Caloundra Christian College has opened a major new facility designed to give students the tools and space to problem-solve and create in ways that prepare them for the future.

The Design Precinct combines a range of disciplines including industrial and digital technology, the arts, fashion and design, music and drama in purpose-built collaborative spaces.

Developed in partnership with McLellan Bush Architects and Insite Construction, the precinct is centred on design thinking principles, encouraging students from Prep to Year 12 to invent and develop solutions to real-world challenges.

It features a mix of maker spaces, creative studios and performance areas.

College principal Vince Wakefield said the facility reflected the school’s focus on innovation and future readiness.

“Design thinking is one of the most important future skills,” Mr Wakefield said.

Federal MP Andrew Wallace, Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek and Caloundra MP Kendall Morton were among those in attendance for the opening.

“This incredible facility will support classes in design, technology, visual arts and creative innovation. This centre will open up exciting opportunities for students to explore their passions and develop real-world skills,” Ms Morton wrote on social media.

“I can’t wait to watch the ideas and innovation this centre will help bring to life.”

Mr Wallace posted: “Great to join Caloundra Christian College this morning for the opening of their impressive new design precinct. From cutting-edge tech and digital creativity to the arts and hands-on design, this precinct gives students the chance to learn, experiment and build real-world skills.

“As a carpenter by trade, it was especially good to see woodwork still being taught proudly in a modern, purpose-built space like this. There’s something powerful about combining traditional trades with new technology so our young people can tackle the jobs of the future with confidence.

“Congratulations to the college on this fantastic investment in local education and opportunity.”
