Work is set to begin on upgrades to an active travel corridor in a fast-growing region of the Sunshine Coast.
Dubbed the ‘Bunnings link’, it will help improve connectivity between a residential area, a nearby main road and a retail and industrial precinct.
The upgrades will take place on the existing corridor between Bellvista Boulevard at Caloundra West and the Bunnings Warehouse on Caloundra Road.
Bellvista developer Stockland has confirmed to Sunshine Coast News that the upgrades will begin this month.
“The 1.1km corridor will see separate paths created for cyclists and pedestrians to improve safety and facilitate more convenient active travel,” a spokesperson said.
“The corridor will remain partially open with detours in place to allow safe movement while works are progressing.

“Works are expected to commence in the coming days and scheduled to finish in October, subject to weather and progress.”
Stockland is funding the works, which will be delivered by Shadforth Civil Contractors.
The spokesperson said the upgrades were part of the “ongoing delivery of transport infrastructure to support the community”.
Works will be delivered during the daytime from Monday to Saturday.

In 2023, Stockland opened a 100m pedestrian bridge connecting Baringa and Nirimba.
The bridge includes dedicated cycle lanes and a separate pedestrian path to promote active transport within the growing Aura community.
Meanwhile, the Caloundra to Currimundi (C2C) Active Transport Corridor remains at a standstill amid funding cuts, despite an appeal from the community for immediate action.
The C2C is part of Sunshine Coast Council’s active transport plan, which also includes the Mooloolaba to the University of the Sunshine Coast corridor.
