A staff member from a former state Labor MP’s office will run for the ALP in the federal seat of Fisher.
Morrison Lakey has lived on the Sunshine Coast all of his life has a background in hospitality, the legal sector and the public service.
He previously worked in the office of Member for Nicklin Rob Skelton, who served one term before the LNP’s Marty Hunt recaptured the seat he previously held.
In Fisher, Mr Lakey will take on sitting member Andrew Wallace, who has held the seat for the LNP since 2016, and independent councillor Keryn Jones, a former Sunshine Coast councillor who is a member of the Voices for Fisher movement.
A Labor media release said Mr Lakey’s background had given him a strong understanding of how good government should work and the vital importance of serving the local community.
Labor has promised that if re-elected, it will open two bulk-billed Medicare Urgent Care Clinics in Buderim and Caloundra as part of a $644 million commitment to open more than 50 of the clinics throughout the country.

“I’m proud to be Labor’s new candidate in Fisher and to continue the Albanese Labor Government’s fight to strengthen Medicare, take action on cost of living and keep building Australia’s future,” Mr Lakey said.
“Medicare Urgent Care Clinics are a Labor initiative because we believe in Medicare and in fully bulk-billed free urgent care, where and when you need it.
“Under Labor, inflation is down, wages are up, unemployment is low and now interest rates have started to come down too – but we know there’s more work to do.”
