Treasured images from around the region have been included in the annual Sunshine Coast Heritage Calendar.

From a 1977 sack race in Kenilworth to a 1965 wheelbarrow derby through the main street of Nambour, this year’s edition lives up to its theme, ‘Sports through the Ages’.

The $6 calendar is available across the region.

Sunshine Coast mayor Rosanna Natoli said the calendar featured a wonderful collection of personal photographs, alongside images from council’s Picture Sunshine Coast collection.

“The personal images and memories provide a window into the real story of everyday life on the Sunshine Coast over the ages,” she said.

“The everyday lives, holidays, memories and photographs we all hold in our family albums tell a broad story of what the Sunshine Coast was, and is, like.

“Our journey as a region is a continuous story and how we experience it plays an important role in our community.

“These images can now be enjoyed by everyone and will become part of our shared Sunshine Coast history.”

Images in the calendar have been tinted with colour, a technique in keeping with the tradition of hand-colouring monochrome photographs which began in 1900.

The calendar is on sale at council libraries and customer contact centres and is available to view at council’s heritage website.

Five community members received framed canvas prints of their images as a special keepsake for their winning contribution.
