Life-changing support for struggling Sunshine Coast veterans will be given a much-needed boost following a significant funding announcement.

Thanks to the 2024-25 Building Excellence in Support and Training Grant, $122,000 will enable the Maroochy RSL to continue to support its veterans and their families.

The money will go towards hospital and aged care visits, mental health support, transport service support and referral to government services.

Federal Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien made the announcement.

“The Sunshine Coast is home to one of the largest veteran communities and they deserve the highest level of service delivery and respect for all that they have done for our country,” Mr O’Brien said.

“This funding will bolster resources to help deliver essential services to the veterans here on the Sunshine Coast.”

The Maroochy RSL supports local veterans.

The funding adds to the Maroochy RSL’s Veteran Hub offerings, meaning it will be well resourced to process claims, keep the vehicles running that are used for hospital and nursing home visits, and pay for crucial digital infrastructure to ensure service delivery.

Maroochy RSL CEO Jason Scanes welcomed the commitment.

“This funding will enable us to continue providing critical wellbeing services and advocacy to our veteran community,” Mr Scanes said.

“We are deeply grateful for the continued support of our federal Member, Ted O’Brien, whose advocacy has been instrumental in securing this grant.”

Maroochy RSL president Peter Tsakissiris acknowledged the volunteers who make its Veteran Advocacy possible.

“Our dedicated volunteers play a pivotal role in delivering these vital services, from assisting with claims and welfare checks to supporting veterans in nursing homes and hospitals,” Mr Tsakissiris said.

“This grant ensures that we can maintain our commitment to supporting veterans every day of the week.”
