A residential aged care centre and its interior designer have been recognised on the global stage.

Rockpool Pelican Waters has been recognised for its innovative and considered design at the prestigious Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards.

The facility, which officially opened last November, took out Design of the Year – Care Suite.

The award recognises the best interior design for a residential aged care room and ensuite bathroom, with consideration given to thoughtfulness, style, comfort of home and enabled independence of end user.

As the mastermind behind the interior look and feel of Rockpool Pelican Waters, Chanelle Perkins of Studio M Collective was named Design of the Year finalist.

The awards were part of the World Ageing Festival in Singapore, which attracted 5000 people.

Rockpool Residential Aged Care CEO Melissa Argent said Ms Perkins’ vision and creativity had been instrumental in making the care suites beautiful and functional.

“Rockpool Pelican Waters is proof of the new standard in accommodation we must set in residential age care whilst specifically meeting the needs of residents,” Ms Argent said.

“Innovation and sustainability underpinned construction, with the 150-bed home comprised of 10 thoughtfully designed and built communities which support 15 residents each.

“Complementing our phenomenal and award-winning care suites is a large dining area and shared lounge located at the heart of each community.”

The five-storey facility was designed by GJG Architects and built by McNab.

It includes a kitchen for supervised cooking, walking tracks, on-site laundry, landscaped gardens, a pool and cinema room, outdoor barbecues, a purpose-built hobby shed, a hair and beauty salon, and a fully equipped wellness and vitality centre.

Residents can also enjoy a paddock-to-plate experience thanks to a garden and vegetable patch, while the onsite cafe, The Rocks Cafe Pelican Waters, is also open to the public.

The facility offers a range of care options including residential, respite, memory support and palliative care.
