We’ve had another week of awesome catches and some great conditions.
The end of school holidays has seen some of the more popular spots quieten down, which is great for local fishos.
We are expecting conditions to deteriorate however, from Friday, with winds and big swells making it difficult for offshore boaties.
Hot and humid conditions will persist into next week, with showers also on the cards.
As always, make sure to check conditions before heading out.
Big tides will continue on either side of Friday’s full moon.
Offshore: Offshore fishing has been great, with last weekend particularly good for fishing. Mahi Mahi continue to make a strong showing at the FADs, while Spanish and Spotty Mackerel kept anglers busy at the Gneerings and around Caloundra. The Hards were a hotspot for Amberjack, and Marlin and Sailfish have been spotted at the 18-mile and Barwon Banks. Mixed reef fish are abundant across various spots, promising a diverse catch for those heading out into the deep.

Maroochy River: The Maroochy River continues to fish well, with good numbers of Whiting still being caught on the sandbanks on live beach worms. Good catches of Flathead and Grunter have been reported, with some good sized Bream also being caught. On the run-out tide, small Cobia have been a notable catch in recent weeks, with several instances reported. Tailor are also making their presence known in the river, with some anglers having success using topwater techniques. Good crab catches have continued, with more upcoming rainfall making it a great time to soak the pots.
Noosa: Bream continue to be found throughout the river, with good sized Flathead at the mouth and along the Tewantin stretch. The mouth has also been the spot for Mangrove Jack and the odd Cobia.
Caloundra: The fishing in Caloundra remains diverse with catches of Diamond Trevally, Grunter and Bream reported this week. Currimundi Lake has delivered some good fish this week, with Mangrove Jack, Bream, and Trevally amongst the catches. Off Moffat Beach, anglers reported some nice Snapper along with a few small sharks. The Passage has yielded a good number of crabs, with the trend set to continue with more rain predicted.

Freshwater:Â Bass have more lethargic and selective due to the recent high waters. Anglers should try targeting deep pools and areas with submerged logs, especially where the water is tannin-stained. In the creeks, lightweight soft plastics and small frog hardbody lures continue to be effective. At the dams, there’s been an active bite of Saratoga, particularly at the back of bays where poppers, spinnerbaits, and flies are the tools of choice.
