UPDATED: Monday, June 26, 6am: The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating following a fatal single-vehicle traffic crash at Image Flat last night, June 25.

Initial investigations indicate that about 11.50pm, a 16-year-old boy was struck by a hatchback vehicle travelling along Image Flat Road.

Emergences services arrived at the scene a short time later, with the boy being transported in a critical condition to Nambour Hospital, where he was later declared dead.

The driver and single occupants of the vehicle, a 24-year-old woman, was not physically injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed or may have dashcam/CCTV of the area around the time of the incident to come forward.

Sunday, June 25, 12.55pm: Paramedics were treating a person following a vehicle and motorcycle crash on Yandina Bli Bli Road at Yandina at 12pm.

Saturday, June 24, 1pm: A two-vehicle crash occurred on Keneland Drive and Pierce Avenue, Little Mountain, at 11.12am. Two stable patients were transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

Saturday, June 24, 1pm: A section of Ben Bennett Bushland Park at Caloundra will undergo a planned burn on Monday from about 9am to 5pm, weather dependent.

The aim of the burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to maintain fire-adapted ecosystems. It is the second section of a 2023 planned burn area.

Friday, June 23, 6.30am: Dingo attacks on K’gari have prompted renewed warnings for visitors to remain vigilant around the native animals and keep their children nearby at all times.

A boy was bitten and dragged under water during a brazen attack last Friday, less than two weeks after another animal was euthanased by park rangers following incidents with tourists.

Rangers are distributing reminders for people to remain vigilant.

“There are too many instances where children are not being appropriately supervised – on K’gari, this means children and teenagers must be within arm’s reach of an adult at all times,” the ranger said.

Last week’s incident came after a dingo was euthanased earlier in June following months of attacks on the island, including biting a seven-year-old boy and a 42-year-old woman.

Thursday, June 22, 4.40pm: Two stable patients were transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital following a single-vehicle crash on Chevallum Road, Tanawha, at 5.33pm.

Thursday, June 22, 1.20pm: A caravan caught fire overnight on a Paskins Road property at Palmwoods.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokesperson said four crews attended the scene, with the first arriving about 9.50pm.

“Crews reported that there was a caravan on fire, and that everyone was accounted for,” the spokesperson said.

“They had it out by 10.15pm. They did not report on the level of damage or whether the fire was well involved. We left it in the hands of the owner of the caravan, after the area was made safe.”

The QFES spokesperson said police and ambulance officers later attended the scene and that a QFES investigation would not be launched.

Thursday, June 22, noon: Three stable patients were transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital after a two-vehicle crash on King Street and Lavarack Crescent, Buderim, at 10.50am.

Thursday, June 22, 10.40am: A stable patient with neck pain was transported to Nambour Hospital following a two-vehicle crash on Beddington Rd, Doonan, around 10am.

Thursday, June 22, 9.35am: A dead humpback whale has been loaded onto a truck and removed from Inskip Point near Rainbow Beach.

The whale was transported through Rainbow Beach and buried deep in the Great Sandy National Park to prevent any shark predation for public safety reasons and limit any odour issues.

The mature animal was discovered by members of the public on Tuesday and reported to the Department of Environment and Science.

It was estimated to be 12 metres long and weighed 18 tonnes. The cause of death is not known.

More than 30,000 humpbacks are expected to migrate from the icy waters of Antarctica to the warmer waters off Queensland to breed and calve.

All sightings of stranded marine life, including whales, should be reported immediately to DES on 1300 130 372 or the relevant council.

Thursday, June 22, 8.45am: The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will conduct planned burn operations in the north-eastern section of Mapleton National Park, starting today, until July 7, weather permitting.

As a result, smoke may be seen in Cooloolabin and Yandina areas.

Thursday, June 22, 5.40am: Paramedics attended a reported structure fire on Paskins Road, Palmwoods, at 9.48pm last night. No one required transport to hospital.

Wednesday, June 21, 5.40pm: A bushfire warning was issued for Landsborough, Mooloolah Valley, and surrounding areas, at 3.23pm.

The warning was to avoid smoke and was at an advice level.

Smoke, from a hazard reduction burn in Beerwah State Forest, was affecting these areas. This fire is under control.

Wednesday, June 21, 6.45am: The Department of Environment and Science is assessing disposal options after a deceased humpback whale stranded at Inskip Point near Rainbow Beach.

The mature animal was discovered by members of the public yesterday and reported to DES.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service rangers are considering a preferred option of transporting the whale for burial and land disposal, however due to the steep dunes and the whale’s size and location, this may be problematic. An alternative option would be to tow the animal back out to sea by vessel and securing it in mangroves in the Sandy Strait.

People are advised to stay away from the area, and not to get close or touch the whale as they can carry diseases.

All reported sightings of stranded marine life, including whales, should be reported immediately to DES on 1300 130 372 or to the relevant council.

Tuesday, June 21, 6.45am: The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Seqwater will conduct planned burns in the Ewen Maddock section of the Beerwah State Forest starting today and continuing to Friday, weather permitting.

As a result, smoke may be seen in the Landsborough, Mooloolah and Glenview areas.

All trails, including the Ferny Forest mountain bike trail, will be closed for the duration of the planned burn.

Tuesday, June 20, 11.20pm: New research shows that the Sunshine Coast was among the hardest hit regions by wild weather in the state during autumn.

NRMA Insurance claims data highlighted the damage that was caused around the state last season.

The Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast were particularly affected, with nearly a quarter of all wild weather claims in Queensland coming from these regions.

Local areas most impacted were Noosaville, Landers Shoot and Dicky Beach.

Tuesday, June 20, 4.20pm: One stable patient was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital following a motorcycle crash on Eudlo Road, Palmwoods, at 3.19pm.

Tuesday, June 20, 6am: Police have charged a man with dangerous driving following the alleged unlawful use of a small truck yesterday afternoon.

It will be alleged the truck was stolen from Mooloolaba around 8.20am yesterday. Around 4.45pm police received multiple calls about the driving manner of the truck on the Bruce Highway at Caboolture.

Polair and police vehicles tracked the truck as it headed south damaging multiple vehicles centred on the Pacific Motorway/M1 in the vicinity of Woolloongabba and Holland Park.

It will be further alleged the truck crashed into the deck of a home in Allinga Street at Mansfield. The driver ran from officers who swiftly arrested him without incident.

The 31-year-old Tara man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, robbery with violence, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and three counts each of stealing and possession of dangerous drugs.

He will appear before the Cleveland Magistrates Court today.

Police urge anyone who witnessed the incident or sustained damage to their vehicle to contact Policelink.

Investigations remain ongoing.

Tuesday, June 20, 6am: A section of The Springs Conservation Area at Buderim will undergo a planned burn today, weather permitting, between 9am to 7pm as part of Sunshine Coast Council’s Bushfire Management Program.

A 2.6-hectare section around Figbird Crescent and Starling Street will be burnt. Smoke impacts to surrounding residents and road users should be minimal. To reduce the impact on animals, a corridor will be maintained for wildlife.

The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to maintain fire adapted ecosystems.

Monday, June 19, 6am: The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has winched a hiker who was injured while descending from Mount Tibberoowuccum in the Glass House Mountains.

The woman had been climbing the mountain’s summit when, upon walking back down, she slipped and injured her ankle.

The rescue helicopter was called into action after 4pm yesterday to assist local Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service personnel, who were already at the scene.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue aeromedical crew carefully assessed the difficult terrain and other factors and decided a winch operation was the safest retrieval method.

The injured hiker was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Sunday, June 18, 1.25pm: A man is dead and another is in custody following an alleged assault in Noosa Heads.

Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch detectives have launched Operation Victor Cord following the suspicious death of the elderly man this morning.

Initial investigations indicate that about 6am, an 87-year-old local man was located unconscious on a path along the beachfront at the northern end of Hastings Street.

He had sustained serious head injuries.

Bystanders assisted the man ahead of the emergency response, however, he died at the scene.

Police took a 27-year-old man into custody without incident about 100 metres away on the beachfront soon after, and a crime scene was declared.
