UPDATED: Sunday, May 14, 9.45am: Paramedics took two people to Sunshine Coast University Hospital – one in a stable condition with shoulder and chest pain and one in a serious condition with a head injury – following a single-vehicle crash on Eudlo Road at 2.51pm at Palmwoods yesterday.

Sunday, May 14, 6am: Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch detectives have established Operation Victor Descent following the sudden death of a man in Conondale.

Initial information indicates just after 4pm on Saturday, May 13, officers were called to a Kilcoy Lane address where the body of a 69-year-old Conondale man was located inside.

Investigations into the circumstances leading up to the man’s death are underway, including whether it’s suspicious in nature.

Detectives appeal for anyone with information to come forward, including nearby residents with dashcam or CCTV captured within the past week.

Thursday, May 11, 11.10am: The annual Island Charity Swim has been rescheduled, due to inclement weather.

The event, which involves people swimming around Mudjimba Island to raise money for local special schools, was set to be held on Saturday, but it will now be held on June 11.

“Based on the forecast weather, swell, and wind for this Saturday we have been advised by the water safety team that the predicted conditions at Mudjimba, Alex, and Mooloolaba are not considered safe for swimmers, paddlers, and support boats to be in the water.”

“With large swells, rain and strong winds predicted this also means that the contingency swim plan, which would take place in Mooloolaba Bay is not an option for this weekend.

Thursday, May 11, 10.20am: Paramedics transported a patient to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition following a motorcycle and vehicle crash on Noosa Drive, Noosa Heads, at 8.31am.

Thursday, May 11, 9.55am: A patient in a stable condition was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital after a vehicle and bicycle incident on Ocean Drive and Twin Waters Drive, Twin Waters, at 8.57am.

Thursday, May 11, 8.30am: A bushfire warning was cancelled for Elimbah, D’Aguilar, Glass House Mountains at 5.09pm yesterday. Fire conditions have eased. Crews were no longer required on scene at this incident.

Wednesday, May 10, 8.15am: The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew airlifted a woman to hospital, after she was involved in a ride-on mower incident yesterday afternoon.

The woman, aged in her 60s, was reportedly cutting grass with a ride-on lawn mower on a private property when she fell down an embankment.

She landed in a small gully and was pinned down by the lawn mower.

The rescue chopper was tasked to assist just before 3pm.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter pilot landed the aircraft near the scene of the incident, where the aeromedical crew met with local Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services personnel to free and treat the patient for multiple injuries.

She was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Wednesday, May 10, 8am: A person was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, in a stable condition, after a motorcycle and vehicle crash on Timbertop Street at Buderim at 9.02pm last night.

Wednesday, May 10, 8am: Paramedics attended a reported four-vehicle incident which occurred at 5.51pm yesterday, on the Mooloolaba Road off ramp of the Sunshine Motorway northbound at Buderim. No one required transport to hospital.

Wednesday, May 10, 8am: A person was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, in a stable condition, after a moped and e-scooter incident on the corner of Budilla Boulevard and Karawatha Drive at Mountain Creek at 4.48pm yesterday.

Tuesday, May 9, 3.55pm: A rescue helicopter was tasked for a patient involved in a tractor rollover on a private property at Obi Obi at 2.35pm. The patient was entrapped with emergency crews working to extricate them. The patient was subsequently airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Tuesday, May 9, 2pm: A bushfire warning has been issued for Elimbah, D’Aguilar, Glass House Mountains and surrounding areas. The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services issued an Advice (stay informed) warning to Avoid Smoke at 1.33pm.

“Smoke is currently affecting Elimbah, D’Aguilar, Glass House Mountains and surrounding areas. This is a hazard reduction burn.”

QFES said to avoid driving through smoke where possible and be aware of firefighters working in the area, stay indoors, and close windows and doors, and to keep respiratory medication close by.

Tuesday, May 9, 1pm: A patient with a shoulder injury was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition after a motorcycle crash on Obi Obi Road, Obi Obi, at 11.03am.

Tuesday, May 9, 1pm: A patient in a stable condition was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital after a vehicle into a house incident on Kyamba Court, Mooloolaba, at 10.35am.

Tuesday, May 9, 1pm: Paramedics were on scene of a shed fire on Strawberry Road, Beerwah, reported at 10.29am. No patients required treatment.

Tuesday, May 9, 1pm: Telstra has fixed an issue impacting calls on some mobile phones.

Tracking website Downdetector showed customers started experiencing issues at 10pm on Monday.

The telco resolved the problem at 10am on Tuesday.

“Good news! The issue affecting mobile calls is now fixed,” Telstra said on Twitter.

Tuesday, May 9, 9.35am: Planned burn operations are set to be conducted, by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, within Mapleton National Park, north of Mapleton township, from today.

As a result, smoke may be seen in the area.

The aim of the burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas. This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.

A section of national park will be closed for the duration of the burn and following the burn until an inspection has been carried out. Please adhere to safety and directional signage.

Tuesday, May 9, 8.40am: Telstra is working to fix a problem impacting calls on mobile phones.

The telco says triple zero calls have not been affected but has not revealed how many customers are experiencing issues or further details about the outage.

“If you’re having trouble with calls on your mobile this morning, we’re working urgently to fix it,” Telstra said on Twitter.

“We’re sorry to mess with the start of your day,.”

The company said customers were able to resolve the issue by switching airplane mode on and off.

Calls through Wi-Fi or apps like FaceTime and Messenger have not been impacted. – AAP

Tuesday, May 9, 8am: Sunshine Coast residents shivered through the region’s coldest May morning since observations started at Sunshine Coast Airport 28 years ago.

The temperature dropped to 3.3 degrees Celsius, and the apparent temperature or ‘feels like’ was about 0 degrees Celsius, amid SW winds.

It eclipsed the previous May record of 3.5 degrees Celsius from 2012.

It was also the coldest morning in 10 months.

Tuesday, May 9, 7.30am: A male patient was transported, in a stable condition, to Sunshine Coast University Hospital following a single-vehicle rollover on Harrys Lane and Lindsay Road at Buderim at 8.51pm last night.

Tuesday, May 9, 7.30am: Two people declined treatment or transport following a two-vehicle crash at Kulangoor yesterday afternoon. The crash occurred on the Bruce Highway southbound at 4.59pm, forcing delays.

Tuesday, May 9, 7.30am: Paramedics attended a car on fire with Queensland Fire and Rescue Service at the Beerwah Marketplace Access at 5.07pm, however no patients required assessment or treatment.

Monday, May 8, 3.40pm: A person was taken to Nambour Hospital, in a stable condition, with minor injuries after a single-motorcycle crash on Mapleton Road near Kureelpa Falls Road at Kureelpa at 3.04pm. Motorists were advised to show caution in the area.

Monday, May 8, 3.05pm: A planned burn will take place at Diamond Valley on Tuesday, between 9am to 6pm. A section of Armstrongs Environment Reserve will undergo the burn, weather permitting, as part of Sunshine Coast Council’s Bushfire Management Program.

A two-hectare section is planned to be burnt and smoke impacts to surrounding residents and road users are expected to be minimal. To reduce the impact on animals, a fauna corridor will be maintained for wildlife.

Part of the reserve will be closed during burn operations and for at least a day following the burn.

Smoke from the fire will be closely monitored. It is not expected to significantly affect surrounding areas however will be noticed from nearby roads and beyond.

Residual smoke may be experienced for up to one day.

Monday, May 8, 1.10pm: Paramedics transported a patient, in a stable condition, to the Princess Alexandra Hospital following a reported snake bite at a private residence at Tewantin at 11.52am.

Monday, May 8, 9.30m: A strong wind warning was this morning issued for Sunshine Coast Waters, until at least midnight. Meanwhile, SW winds of 20 to 30 km/h were expected on the Sunshine Coast, becoming light in the late afternoon then becoming SW 15 to 20 km/h in the evening.

The temperature dipped to 8 degrees Celsius at Maroochydore this morning but it felt like 3 degrees Celsius among SW winds. It’s expected to be similar on Tuesday morning.

Monday, May 8, 7am: Paramedics transported a man in his 20s to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition following a vehicle and pedestrian incident on Duporth Avenue, Maroochydore, at 8.25pm.

Sunday, May 7, 6pm: Paramedics assessed two patients following a single-vehicle crash into a guard rail on the Bruce Highway at Bridges, near Yandina, at 5pm. The car was reportedly alight. Motorists were advised to show caution as the southbound lanes were blocked.

Both patients declined treatment or transport following the incident.

Sunday, May 7, 1.10pm: Paramedics took a person to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, in a stable condition, following a two-vehicle crash with a rollover on Queen Street at Moffat Beach at 12.15am.

Saturday, May 6, 12.15pm: New low-cost airline Bonza has today launched the last of its initial new routes, welcoming the first flight into the Sunshine Coast from Tamworth.

On hand to welcome passengers from Australia’s country music capital were a contingent of 20 line dancers and a country singer who will be performing at the upcoming Gympie Muster.

Onboard today’s flight was chief commercial officer Carly Povey, who hinted there are more routes to come in the future.

“Now all 13 routes are wheels up from the Sunny Coast, our team of legends are focussing on earning the right to grow,” she said.

The Tamworth route is the 13th and final to launch as part of the low-cost carrier’s initial roll-out, with the airline now operating 39 flights a week from its Sunshine Coast Airport base.

Saturday, May 6, 12.10pm: A person has been transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious condition following a bicycle crash on Mckinnon Drive, Cooroibah, at 11.11am.
