Renewal works well underway at beachside landmark

A key section of a well-worn road in the heart of the Sunshine Coast is about to get an upgrade.

A 4km stretch of Maroochydore Road, from the Stark Lane overpass near the Bruce Highway to just before Martins Creek in eastern Kunda Park, will undergo resurfacing in late January.

More than $8 million is being invested into the project.

Member for Nicklin Rob Skelton said the upgrade would ensure a smoother, safer drive for commuters.

“Maroochydore Road is a busy urban-arterial road and the new surface will benefit the 32,000 motorists who use it every day,” he said.

“Crews will move onto this project after they finish resurfacing a 4km section of the Sunshine Motorway.

Mr Skelton said works would take about 12 weeks to complete, weather and conditions permitting.

“Motorists can expect delays and increase in travel times when lane closures and detours are implemented,” he said.

Maroochydore Road connects Maroochydore to the Bruce Highway and the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

“Road signs will be in place where traffic conditions have changed to ensure motorist and road worker safety, so please drive safely and to conditions.”

Mr Skelton thanked motorists and the community in advance for their patience and cooperation.

Works will be undertaken from Sunday to Thursday between 6pm and 6am, to minimise impact on the high volume of daytime traffic.

In addition to the resurfacing, preliminary design was underway on a priority project to upgrade the Maroochydore Road, Pike Street and Killick Street intersection.
