A local custom home design business is relishing winning a swag of national awards.

DCM Building Design captured four accolades at the Building Designers Association of Australia Awards in Melbourne.

The practice also won three Building Design Queensland Awards on the Gold Coast in September.Their Oceanic entry, a family home in Warana, took out national honours for New Residential Building Design ($750k to $1m) along with the James Hardie Industry Partner Award, whilst their Neerim Drive Duplex won the Multi-Residential (up to three storeys) award.

Oceanic was adjudged one of the best designed new homes.

Their fourth award was for an international commercial aquarium project that has yet to be built due to delays with the pandemic.DCM was born out of the dreams of lifelong locals Duncan Cox and Chris McCabe in 2015.

Since then, DCM has grown from strength to strength, picking up awards and growing a team of talented local designers. An upswing of people building their dream homes during the COVID pandemic has kept the team busy and while the recent interest rate rises appeared to momentarily dampen demand, Chris said it was back to designing and building dream homes again.

“We’re so fortunate to love what we do, where we live, where we work,” he said.

“The clients that put their trust in us to design, what is not just going to be their home, but a legacy for many years to come, is really special.

“This makes it important that we get it right. If nothing else I think these awards show we’re doing it right.”
