True crime stories (Dec 8)

If you love gritty crime stories and want to hear them from someone who faced evil at every turn, this is an event you can’t afford to miss. Sunshine Coast residents are invited to an evening with Gary Jubelin, former top detective-turned award-winning author and host of the top-rating podcast I Catch Killers, also the title of his bestselling memoir. Gary has released a new book, Badness, which puts under the microscope the evil he faced on a daily basis during his career as one of Australia’s most respected and decorated police homicide detectives. Gary led investigations into the disappearance of William Tyrrell, the serial killing of three Aboriginal children in Bowraville and the brutal gangland murder of Terry Falconer. The evening with Gary will be held at Venue 114, Bokarina.

Elf Jr The Musical (Nov 11-12)

Festival of Laughter (Nov 11-12)

The Sunshine Coast Comedy Festival is set to bring big laughs to The Brewery at Eumundi. The fabulous Vanessa Mitchell will take you on a laugh-out-loud adventure of her trials and tribulations and then, on Sunday, the festival will kick off with an open mic stand-up competition, followed by Ting Lim and Ashwin Segkar with their Rice and Spice show. Topping off the evening is Heath Franklin bringing his infamous Chopper character to life.

Meat Loaf: The Concert (Nov 19)

Meat Loaf: The Concert is two hours of nothing but show stopping hits of the iconic singer, Meat Loaf, and the hits penned by his long-time collaborator and friend, Jim Steinman. The concert, at NightQuarter, will feature an eight-piece band fronted by lead singer Rick Szabo.

Baroque Brilliance (Nov 19)

Pacific Chamber Players final concert series for 2022 is their ever-popular Baroque Brilliance. This year’s program features Purcell’s majestic “Trumpet Sonata in D” and Corelli’s peaceful and uplifting “Christmas Concerto”. With variety an integral ingredient, the players will also be performing Geminiani’s “Oboe Sonata” and the delightful “Platti Flute Sonata”. They will perform at Eudlo and Cooroy halls.

The Australian Bee Gees Show (Nov 30) 

Fresh from celebrating 10 years performing, and more than 3000 shows on the Las Vegas strip, the Australian Bee Gees Show will be heading Down Under for the Australian leg of their 25th anniversary tour. This new show, at The Events Centre, will feature all of the hits in a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

Spring family-friendly event (Nov 13)

Stockland’s largest masterplanned community in Australia, Aura, is set to live up to its name as the ‘City of Colour’ with the final event of its spring family-friendly event series for residents and guests, at Bells Creek. The final event of the series will encourage residents and locals of the Aura community to celebrate the festive season with a Christmas craft workshop, games, creative face painting, local live music, coffees, a sausage sizzle and more – all for free.

Largest chorale performance (Nov 13)

Brisbane Chorale and Oriana Choir will join forces for the first time, to present one of the great masterpieces of musical history Haydn’s The Creation, at Venue 114. Conducted by Emily Cox, the combined chorus will be joined by soloists Leanne Kenneally, Soprano, Tobias Merz, Tenor and Jason BarrySmith, Bass. This will be the largest choral performance the Sunshine Coast has seen with more than 150 people singing. The St Andrews Sinfonia will accompany, the singers so there will be almost 200 people making music. Haydn’s monumental oratorio The Creation depicts and celebrates the creation, the wonder and beauty of the world.

THNDO – The Reintroduction Tour (Nov 18)

Powerhouse vocalist THNDO will take to the stage in The Bunker at The Imperial Hotel, for what will be an extraordinary night of music. She’ll be supported by songbird Andrea Kirwan. Following her critically-acclaimed performances on The Voice Australia earlier this year, the widely-loved Zimbabwean-born ‘First Lady of Soul and R&B’ presents The Reintroduction Tour. Her journey begins a new chapter of immersive song writing and emotive performances.

Night Nav orienteering (Nov 8)

The Sunshine Orienteers club is about to start a series of six Night Nav events, with the first at Bokarina Beach. The events can be enjoyed by anyone, including families, scout groups, work colleagues, serious adventure racers, couples walking dogs and even mums pushing prams. Participants can enter online. They can download the MapRun App and choose between 40 minute and 60 minute courses. The routes take participants around streets parks and at times onto beaches. The aim is to visit as many check points as possible in the allotted time.

Ensemble’s Christmas Classics (Dec 2)

A new Brisbane-based chamber ensemble is aiming to change the Christmas soundtrack this year. “As professional classical musicians, we’ve all done our fair share of Messiahs, and carols as well, “ group founder and violinist Helen Carvolth said. “We decided to celebrate Advent, and the season of summer, with something different.” Riverbend Ensemble will play works by Mozart and Vaughan Williams, as well as the famous “Summer” concerto by Vivaldi. The program also includes music inspired by carols, at  Maleny Community Centre.

Sculpture on the Edge (Nov 20 to Dec 4)

An annual sculpture competition, coordinated by Arts Connect Inc, Sculpture on the Edge is ready to be held in the scenic Sunshine Coast Hinterland. It will be hosted at Flaxton Gardens, a stunning wedding and events venue with breathtaking, panoramic views of the coastline from Noosa to Caloundra. The competition features eclectic, original indoor and outdoor sculptures across a variety of media and the winning artist will receive the $10,000 first prize.

Sunshine Coast Record Fair (Nov 13)
The Sunshine Coast Record Fair is back with another big one. There will be around 50 tables of music for sale. That’s around 40,000 records, CD’s, cassettes and memorabilia from a heap of stall holders for sale from as little as $1 each. There will be anything and everything from ABBA to ZZ TOP and every genre, you’re sure to find something awesome.
It’s all happening at BROUHAHA, Baringa, on Sunday, November 13, from 10am to 3pm. Entrance will cost you a gold coin donation to BeyondBlue.
