A new section of pathway along the beachfront that was the “missing link” between Dicky Beach and Moffat Beach has been completed.

Residents are being urged to take a walk or scenic cycle along the 500m stretch that boasts sweeping views of the sea and passes in front of beachfront homes.

The 3m-wide path runs from Cooroora Street through to Dicky Beach Skatepark and is part of the 73 kilometre coastal pathway network that stretches from Bells Creek in the south to Coolum in the north.

It links the Dicky Beach skatepark and picnic area with the popular Ann Street surf break and continues through to the ‘Spanish House’ near Moffat Beach.

Until now, pedestrians had to take the path that deviated away from the beach and ran alongside cars on busy Elizabeth Street.

Now people will be able to stay close to the water while walking, jogging, cycling and scooting.

The new footpath has sweeping views of the ocean.

Sunshine Coast Council Division 2 Councillor Terry Landsberg said the new link had been well received by our community.

“It’s been great to see so many already riding and walking along the new 3-metre-wide link – plenty of space for everyone,” Cr Landsberg said.

“The pathway really does show off the sweeping coastline allowing residents and visitors to enjoy the beauty, rather than travel along Elizabeth Street.

“As part of the works, the car park upgrade includes an additional two new car spaces and an extra motorcycle bay at the Lower Neill Street carpark will also further benefit our community.

“We have also installed three picnic tables and three new park seats to ensure it’s inviting for families and offers a new space to meet and socialise while outdoors.

“I’m really pleased to see the works completed with vegetation maintenance to continue over the next few months.

“I’d also like to thank the adjacent residents for their cooperation during the construction period.”

At 3m wide there is plenty of room for pedestrians and cyclists.

This upgrade follows on from the Dicky Beach Precinct Plan Stage 1 completion last year.

Dicky Beach Coastal Pathway upgrades include:

  • a new three-metre-wide concrete coastal pathway at ground level
  • three new park seats
  • three new picnic tables
  • bike racks at Beach Access 269 (Lower Neill Street carpark)
  • two extra car parks and motorbike bay to the Lower Neill Street carpark
  • vegetation maintenance to continue over the next few months.
