Motorists are set to get a smoother run on a well-used section of the Bruce Highway on the Sunshine Coast.

The State Government is ramping up investment in the highway, with more than $7 million of works to resurface 12km of road between Ninderry and Cooroy.

Member for Nicklin Rob Skelton said commuters would significantly benefit from the upgrade.

“This will make this section of the highway safer, once works are complete,” he said.

“Resurfacing plays a key role in maintaining our road network to improve its safety and resilience.

“We know how vital the Bruce Highway is to the wider network and I’m sure the 27,000 motorists who travel this section each day will appreciate the result.

“The resurfacing is expected to take about four months, weather and construction conditions permitting.”

Mr Skelton thanked the community in advance for its patience during the important works.

“To minimise disruptions, all work will be carried out at night, with occasional weekend work if needed,” he said.

“We will also be resurfacing the Eumundi-Noosa Road off-ramp and the Bunya Road roundabout at Eumundi and detours will be in place.

“Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, follow the directions of signs and traffic control, and allow additional travel time.”

Crews will start resurfacing northbound from just north of the Ninderry Road overpass, Ninderry, to just south of the Cooroy Connection Road (Myall Street) interchange, Cooroy.

Mr Skelton said it was funded via government’s $27.5 billion four-year roads and transport plan, which is creating 24,000 jobs and driving Queensland’s economic recovery from COVID-19.

Other works on the Bruce Highway on the Coast included resurfacing works on about 5km from the Cooroy Connection Road interchange at Cooroy to the Eumundi-Noosa Road interchange at Eumundi, completed in 2021, and about 8km between Bli Bli Road interchange and Eumuni-Noosa Road interchange.
