The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has flown a man to hospital after he was injured in a mowing accident.

The rescue chopper was called to a private property, at Carters Ridge in the Gympie region, just before noon Monday.

It’s believed the man, aged in his 70s, had been operating a ride-on mower when he lost control, causing the machine to roll down a ditch.

The mower came to rest upside down, pinning the man to the ground beneath it.

A neighbour reportedly discovered the accident site some time later and raised the alarm.

Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics, Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) personnel and Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers were on the scene, when the helicopter arrived.

The patient was freed by QFES staff and treated for serious lower body injuries.

He was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, in a serious but stable condition, under the care of an RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and QAS Flight Paramedic.
