A Sunshine Coast school’s national title-winning team is switched on for one of the biggest robotics competitions in the world.
Chancellor State College’s ‘RoboKings’ are set to compete in the FIRST Championships in Houston, Texas.
The event, run by international youth organisation and not-for-profit charity For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, will include some of the globe’s brightest young minds.
It will bring students and mentors together, to build robots that perform in a competitive environment. In building their robots, students will learn valuable skills such as teamwork, collaboration, public speaking, technical science and engineering.
The event, boasting almost 200 teams, will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center from Wednesday, April 19, until Saturday, April 22.
Chancellor State College teacher and RoboKings coach Sandi Wallace said the team showed its potential at the national championships late last year.
“When other students were starting their summer holidays, our robotics teams travelled to Sydney to participate in the Australian FIRST Tech Challenge (and) set a world record … an amazing experience,” she said.
The RoboKings claimed two wins and completed a specific engineering task faster than ever before at the championships, earning an invitation to Houston.
Chancellor’s renowned school robotics program has seen a number of successes on the local, regional, state and national stages.
