UPDATE

The Sunshine Coast could be in for a mixed bag of weather on Christmas Day.

The forecast, as of Saturday morning, from the Bureau of Meteorology, was for a partly cloudy day and the 50 per cent chance of showers and the chance of a thunderstorm, most likely in the late morning and afternoon. Expect light winds becoming E 15-20km/hr.

Temperatures should peak at about 28 degrees Celsius.

EARLIER

Almost perfect conditions are forecast for Christmas Day on the Sunshine Coast.

As of Tuesday, Christmas Day was expected to be be partly cloudy, temperatures should peak at about 27 or 28 degrees Celsius, with only a slight chance of a shower, and light winds.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s Brooke Pagel told Sunshine Coast News that conditions should be favourable for the big day.

“We should have significant SE winds during the next couple days, but it should ease off by the weekend,” she said.

“The Christmas Day forecast is for pretty typical and average weather for this time of year but the only thing that is a bit different is the temperature.

“It should be just a degree or two below average for this time of year.

“We can get 29s and 30s with humidity at Christmas, but this SE flow coming through should lower the temperature a bit.

“We should get mostly sunshine but the residual effects of the sea breeze and inland cloud cover should keep temperatures down a bit.”

There was only a slight chance of a shower.

“We may have a sprinkle or two on Saturday, but going into Sunday and the way the trough is moving, we will probably have no showers on Sunday, and if we do it would be quite insignificant,” Ms Pagel said.

That’s good news for the tens of thousands of locals and visitors who are expected to celebrate Christmas outdoors this year.

But the king tides will be the biggest of the year.
