A determined lawyer with a passion for social justice has joined a leading Sunshine Coast-based compensation firm.

James Leggo is expected to bolster Travis Schultz & Partners, which has garnered a reputation for finding the next generation of top lawyers.

He looked forward to doing all he could to improve the lives of others.

“When a person is injured, they are at their most vulnerable, and I believe everyone deserves a lawyer who can provide excellent client service and expertise at a fair cost, which is precisely what TSP offers,” Mr Leggo said.

“I derive purpose and meaning through using my legal competency to make a positive difference to the lives of those in need and I am very excited to get started and to become an active member of the Sunshine Coast community.”

Mr Leggo completed his Bachelor of Laws from QUT in 2016, when he graduated top of his class with First Class Honours.

For his efforts, Mr Leggo was awarded the KG Copp Memorial Prize for being the student who achieved the highest grades during the course.

Travis Schultz & Partners was founded in 2018.

Mr Leggo then completed a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at QUT before relocating to the Northern Territory, where he was admitted to the Supreme Court.

“It was in the great north that I cut my teeth in the law and gained invaluable experience in civil and commercial litigation and various criminal defence matters,” Mr Leggo said.

Mr Leggo also volunteered at the Darwin Community Legal Service each week, providing pro bono legal advice to members of the local community.

He has four years post-admission experience, including three years working as a solicitor in Townsville.

“It was during my time in Townsville where I began to specialise in personal injuries and worker’s compensation law and found my calling within the law, where I get to help people at a time when they really need someone on their side,” he said.

James Leggo has worked in Darwin and Townsville.

“I enjoy listening to people’s stories, building a personal connection and making a positive difference to their lives through my hard work and compassion.”

TSP Chief Operating Officer, Kelly Phelps, said Mr Leggo would be a perfect fit for the firm.

“James is a very passionate lawyer and a tireless worker with a strong mission and value alignment with Travis Schultz & Partners,” she said.

“It was clear from our first meeting that he is driven to be an expert and leader in his field. At TSP, we value and support new talent and we are eager to help James achieve his goals. I have no doubt we can expect great things from him.”

TSP was founded in 2018 with a team of five and now boasts a growing team of 34 talented people servicing clients from their offices in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Cairns.
