Tarryn Scamp is on a mission to help raise awareness of breast cancer and to support those who have been diagnosed with it.
The Year 5 student was prepared to lose most of her own locks in the process, getting 45cm of her hair cut off at a special event at Immanuel Lutheran College.
Her efforts are in support of her best friend’s mother, Gina, during her fight with breast cancer, and to raise money for the McGrath Foundation’s Breast Care Nurses.
The nurses provide invaluable care to women and men experiencing breast cancer. They help individuals and their families for free and with no referral.
Tarryn created a fundraising page on Facebook and she has raised about $2500.
She also donated the hair to Variety Australia, which makes wigs for those who have lost their hair due to cancer.
“Tarryn is energised by her project,” her mum Naomi said.
“We’re so proud of her.”

Immanuel Lutheran College Principal Colin Minke praised Tarryn for her efforts.
“A breast cancer diagnosis changes your life,” he said.
“We’ve had staff affected by this disease and the impact is felt through family and friends.
“The McGrath Breast Care Nurses bring families peace of mind through expert knowledge, personal care and compassion.
“This is a wonderful cause for Tarryn to donate attention and funds to.”
