An injured hiker has been rescued from the southern face of Mt Beerwah after spending the night on the mountain during a complex emergency operation.

The Queensland Ambulance Service was called at about 4.30pm on Saturday following reports a hiker had fallen at the popular Glass House Mountain location.

Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR) mountain rescue firefighters responded to the scene, but the complexity of the rescue meant the operation could not be completed that evening.

Assisted by Queensland Fire Department (QFD) drone operators, firefighters were able to pinpoint the man’s location before scaling the mountain and lowering themselves down a vertical face to reach him in the early hours of Sunday.

QFD drones were also used to deliver additional supplies to the rescue crews and the injured man overnight.

QFR firefighters provided the man, who was in his 20s, with first aid, food and water and remained with him until the rescue could be completed.

The man had suffered ankle injuries and was winched to safety by a rescue helicopter about 9.30am on Sunday.

The helicopter landed close by before the patient was transferred to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
