Some of the Sunshine Coast’s promising young writers have written a book in a day.
Year 6 students at Caloundra State School participated in the Write a Book in a Day competition, writing a chapter book from start to finish, in a marathon effort.
Students had a longer than normal day to complete the task, starting writing at 9am and going beyond the school bell until 5.30pm.
Relieving Principal Brendan Bopf said the school had some talented and keen writers across all year levels and this competition was a great opportunity for Year 6 students.
“We had 10 students work together to produce a book in a day,” he said.
“It’s a great opportunity for our keen writers to work together in a team to come up with a story they can be proud of.

“At Caloundra we’re really passionate about encouraging reading. We just finished our Book Week Celebrations where students and teachers dressed up for a special book character parade.
“Write a Book in a Day is a terrific way to harness and nurture our senior writers and stretch their creativity and imagination.”

Their book will be judged with others from Queensland and the Northern Territory, and then nationally.
Once judged, the book will be delivered to sick children in hospital by The Kids’ Cancer Project.
The Caloundra State School team, called the Lighthouse Legends, is fundraising for this worthy cause, and donations can be made here.
