About 1200 gymnasts have converged on Caloundra Indoor Stadium for a mega event, featuring three different competitions.

Competitors have been in action during the The Women’s Artistic Gymnastics and Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Queensland Club Championships, the Border Challenge and the Masters Special Olympics Challenge.

Thirty-six clubs from around Queensland have been involved, including Sunshine Coast’s Cooroy Gymnastics Club, YMCA Caloundra, Sunshine Coast Gymnastics Academy, Impact Gymnastics and Maroochy Beach Gymnastics.

Event manager Chloe Donnet said participants relished competing for their club and state.

“The team environment is always a good one.

“All the athletes love being around their friends and love being able to compete with their team-mates.”

She said gymnastics continued to prosper, particularly on the Sunshine Coast,

“It’s a great competitive sport.”

“On the Sunshine Coast it’s very strong and it’s growing all the time.”

Participants at the carnival, which culminates Tuesday, were inspired by Tyson Bull, who is bound for the Tokyo Olympics next month.

“He was here on Friday night, and a few athletes come up from our national training centre, to display their skills and to compete.

“It was fantastic to have that talent here, for all of the younger athletes to aspire to.”
