More than 300 people attended the Aunty Betty Memorial Reconciliation Walk at Buderim Forest Park, to honour the memory and work of well-regarded elder Aunty Betty McMahon.
The McMahon family was proudly in attendance at the event, which was an initiative of the Sunshine Coast Reconciliation Group Inc (SCRGI).
The walk was part of the region’s contribution to Reconciliation Week and aligned with the 2021 theme “More than a word, reconciliation takes action”.
Aunty Betty, who was Patron of SCRGI, was remembered as a woman of action.

The event included young people responding to an impromptu call from Lyndon Davis, of the Gubbi Gubbi Dance Troupe, to join them in corroboree.
It also included a walk of Buderim Forest Park, led by Lyndon, followed by morning tea.
