Authorities are looking for the owner of an urn that was found on a Sunshine Coast beach.

Sunshine Coast police issued a ‘lost property appeal’ after the discovery of the blue object at Peregian Beach more than two months ago.

The urn, which contains ashes, is believed to have washed ashore at Peregian Beach.

It was located on the sand, near access 66, by a member of the public on August 12 and handed in to Noosa Police Station.

The urn has been stored in a holding area since.

Police were “appealing to the owner of the urn or anyone with relevant information to come forward”.

A police spokesperson told Sunshine Coast News that they were unsure where it came from and its possible duration at sea.

“Enquiries, to date, do not indicate how the urn came to be in the water or how long it was in the water before it was handed in to police,” they said.

“Police are committed to locating the rightful owner.”

Beach access 66 is at Victory Park, off Lorikeet Drive, on the southern end of Peregian Beach.

The object has minimal clues to its origin.

There are no distinctive markings on the urn other than the ombre colouring. It has a dark blue rim and upper section, with the glaze fading to a lighter blue towards the base.

No one has come forward to claim it since it was handed in. Anyone with information about the urn should contact police and quote this reference number: QP2601562932.

It’s the second appeal for information regarding an unusual item on the Sunshine Coast during the past month.

Police asked for help to locate the owner of a ‘gold metal bar’ that was located at Rosemount on August 31.

Police did not comment on that item’s authenticity or value, or how it came into their possession.

Meanwhile, police also appealed for information about money found in two beach towns.

Sunshine Coast police stated, on October 26, that they were seeking public assistance to identify the owner of a “substantial amount of money” found in a hotel in Noosa in September.

They were also seeking assistance to identify the owner of a “substantial amount of money” found in a resort room in Coolum in August.

If you believe you are the owner or know who the owner is, please contact the Noosa Property Office on 5440 8111, with reference number QP2601656264 and QP2601786439 respectively.
